Nain Carpets |
The town of Nain close to Isfahan in Central Iran is renowned for its fine carpets. Some of them can boast of more than a million knots per square-meter. The finer the yarns of the warp, the finer the knots can be. As a rule there are for qualities: Nain-Kashmar (ordinary quality), Nain-Noh-La (the yarn of the warp is twined of 9 cotton fibres resulting in 40 raj on 7 cm), Nain-Shish-La (6 fibres and 60 raj correspondingly ), Nain-Tchaha-La (4 fibres and 80 raj correspondingly). All Nain carpets have an all over pattern with medallion. The possession of a Nain carpet, a very sought after quality in Iran as well, was considered since a long time as a sign of affluence / prosperity. They soon enjoyed a good reputation in Europe too, all the more since their tranquil pattern and their typically ground colour of beige, went together especially well with European furnishings. Having said this one has to add that even softer pastel shades would have been even more to European tastes. We comply to these wishes through our golden washing that softens the colours and refines the carpets with a shining lustre. |
